Love at First Sight?

A popular phenomenon

It is a very popular phrase found in most books you read and movies you watch. There is at least one character who falls in love at fd the “love” pop up itself at the time of the sight of the person of opposite sex? Or was it an attraction that turned into affection and into love?

Who experience love at first sight?

The book, "How to Analyze People on Sight"[1] by Elsie Lincoln Benedict and Ralph Paine Benedict, divides all humans into five basic types[2]. Among these the second type- the thoracic are the people that mostly experience love at first sight.  

So, what sort of people are called thoracics? These are the people who have well-developed respiratory system. They are characterized by the larger chest housing large lungs, long neck, long nose and high colour(they seem to blush much more than others). They are the most attractive in terms of looks. If you want to see a large number of thoracics at a place, a musical show or a theatre would be the most suitable. The writers claim that the need of respiration developed after the need of nutrition was accomplished, and that the evolving organism had little sense of what was happening around it. The thoracics seem to have retained the ancestral characters.

Now, back to love at first sight. It's been explained already that the thoracics have the most impressive bodily features and that the tendency to be attracted towards them is high. The thoracics, being novice in the matter of controlling their senses are the most attracted by the opposite sex of the same type. As a result, they experience love at first sight.

The Risk

The writers of the book explain the fact with examples. They took some time in studying the cases of divorce and found out that at least one of the divorcee was of the thoracic type. When interrogated, most of them confessed that they had married as soon as they had fallen in "love".

Most of the celebrities related to music and movies, if you have carefully noted, get married at an early age and seem to be happy with each. Within a year or two, they may shock you with the news that they divorced!

The  Cause of Popularity

The Benedicts call the thoracics "thrillers" and that one word is enough to explain the popularity of their experiences. A thoracic cannot remain in the dark. He sorts out ways one way or the other to come out into limelight. If a thoracic has some brains, he writes down his experiences. His books are instant hit. (Look at the major Best Seller lists and compare the looks of the writer. Almost 90 % of them are attractive to look at- almost like actors themselves.) Also, the entertainment world belongs to them and it is by music and movies that we are inspired. That's where we hear or read accounts of love at first sight.

A Decision left on us

After knowing the risk involved in "Love at first sight", it is wise to avoid such chances. To ignore someone who has attracted you might be a difficult task. But asking to yourself if it was just a physical attraction might save yourself. If you feel that your "love at first sight" is love indeed, to continue your journey of love will be the best idea.
